Patrician College of Arts and Science celebrated its 21st Annual Sports Day on Saturday 30th April 2022. The Sports Day celebration started with the arrival of dignitaries followed by invocation song Tamiz Thai Vazthu. The chief guest of the Sports day was Mr. P. Mahendran, Deputy Commissionaire of Police, Adyar. Along with the chief guest the dignitaries on the Dias were: Rev. Bro. Dr. S. Arockiyaraj, Director and Secretary, Dr. Fatima Vasanth, Academic Director, Dr.Usha George, Principal,Vice Principals Dr.Geetha Rufus and Dr.Meena.
Then the welcome address was delivered by the Principal, Dr.Usha George. The Chief Guest and the principal took the salute of the impressive march past of the students, coupled with some starring marching music by the band. The main ceremony of the event, Lighting of the Torch, the symbolic continuation of the Olympic flame, was lit by Rev. Bro. Dr. S. Arockiyaraj, Director and Secretary. Subsequently sports students and college sports secretaries carried the relay of the torch into the field.
The students of the Patrician College entered into the arena with the spirit of the occasion in a grand manner. The oath was being administered by the sports secretary. The sportive spirit enthralled the rest of the event. The welcome dance by the students from various departments set the scene in a colorful manner. Running race was the prime moment of the entire event. Once the race began, the atmosphere was filled with cheering and applause of encouragement for the young athletes. Thus follow the list of prize winners: March Past first prize is won by BBA, second prize is by English Department and third prize was by Mathematics department. The overall championship of the runner was the Commerce department. The second runner was B.Com A&F and the third runner was the BCA department.
The special address was delivered by the chief guest Mr. P. Mahendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar. Chief Guest in his special address shared the significance of sports and how sports played a significant role in his profession. Physical Director Mr. Arul Murugan read the annual report to the gathering. The sports day programme was coordinated by physical directors Mr. Arul Murugan and Dr. Sathiyavathi. The sports day reached its culmination with the national anthem by the college band.
