I AM STRONGEST AWARDS 2022 BY SHARON PLY

The iamstrongest Awards was conceptualised and launched by SharonPly with the goal of raising awareness of real-life examples of bravery, empathy and altruism that demonstrate human potential for greatness and goodness. This was the 4th edition of iamstrongest Awards and it carried a plaque and a cash reward to honour change-makers who have made exceptional efforts in helping animals in distress.

This year’s awards were for people who have shown extraordinary strength of character, courage, determination, and selflessness that underline the human potential for greatness, by making a positive impact on the lives of animals.

SharonPly honoured Mr. Bomman and Mrs. Bellie, the couple who took care of an orphaned elephant calf named Raghu at the government-run Theppakadu Elephant Camp in the Nilgiris District. Ms. Anjali Sharma, who takes care of 100+ stray dogs at her home in Redhills, Chennai. She collects food from 5-star hotels which otherwise would go waste as garbage, processes it to feed stray dogs every day. Mr. Sekar, ‘Birdman‘of Chennai who donates 40% of his salary to feed 8,000+ parakeets. Mr. Shravan Kumar, an animal rights activist who has saved 2000 snakes, wild animals and now runs a hotel for dogs.

Ms. Prabha Venugopal has been an active part of animal welfare for the past 11 years. She has been rescuing injured/sick dogs from different parts of Chennai and its outskirts, while she also handles legal cases of animal cruelty and abuse.

The event was held on the 12th of May 2023 in Savera Hotel, Chennai. The Chief Guest of the event Ms. Supriya Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests, said “I am heartened by the initiative taken by SharonPly to honour people from all walks of life through the #iamstrongest Awards. The individuals selected this year have each, in their own best capacity, devoted time and effort towards animal welfare across urban, suburban and rural areas, and truly deserve commendation.”
